leah fessler

writer and investor

hello

I'm Leah, a journalist, angel investor, and head of editorial and brand at Chief, the executive development network for exceptional women leaders. I also write a column for Supermaker on the future of VC, and freelance for the New York Times, Washington Post, Medium's Forge, and The Atlantic.

Prior to Chief, I worked as a reporter at Quartz, VC at Slow Ventures, and in management at Bridgewater Associates, the world's largest hedge fund. I remain intimately connected with the NYC and SF venture capital scenes, and work as a scout. I'm a proud investor in Ethels Club, the first social club built for people of color.

As a journalist at Quartz I covered the intersections of feminism, technology, and the future of work. All my Qz.com work is here. One of my features was nominated by Quartz for a pulitzer, which was cool. My favorite features were about sexism on Slack, why powerful women own dogs, and how to tell colleagues to stop chewing so loudly

I created and led How We'll Win, an ambitious Quartz special project on the status of gender equality at work. For the project, I hosted a facebook video show, interviewing women like Chelsea Clinton, Aparna Nancherla, and Rachel Bloom.

I regularly speak at conferences and events, including talking about sexual cultures and feminism in the workplace at Aspen Ideas Festival, Alma, Harvard Law School, Founders + Funders, Hustle 2x, PBS Point Taken, BBC World News, Cheddar, Chicago Council for Global Affairs, and more. Please email me to book speaking gigs.

Awards include Folio top women in media 2018, Linkedin Top Voices in Tech, Case Foundation Top Women in Tech on Twitter, and more.

I grew up around Boston and studied English and creative writing (non-fiction) at Middlebury College in Vermont. I now live in Brooklyn with my adorable pug, Chester, and my fiance, Sean. Best to find me on Twitter (@LeahFessler)
